Old Glory DC to Officially Open George Mason Stadium with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

FAIRFAX, VA — Old Glory DC will officially inaugurate its new home at George Mason Stadium on Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony ahead of its Major League Rugby match against the California Legion, marking a major milestone for professional rugby in Northern Virginia.

Organized by the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, the ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on April 26 from 6:15 – 7:00 pm at George Mason Stadium, 4400 University Dr, Fairfax, VA 22030, USA

The event is expected to draw local officials, university representatives, team leadership, and supporters, all gathered to recognize the stadium’s transition into a professional rugby venue and its role as the club’s home field for the 2026 season.

The ceremony will highlight the collaboration between the university and Old Glory DC, as well as broader efforts to expand professional sports offerings in the Fairfax area. Officials are expected to emphasize the stadium’s upgraded facilities and its capacity to host high-level rugby competition.

Following the ribbon cutting, Old Glory DC will take the field for its scheduled home fixture against the California Legion, turning the occasion into a combined celebration of sport and community engagement. Fans in attendance will witness both the ceremonial opening and live match action as the club continues its 2026 campaign.

Team officials have described the move to George Mason Stadium as a long-term investment aimed at strengthening the club’s regional identity and growing its supporter base across the Washington metropolitan area. The organization has also noted that the venue will provide opportunities to further develop youth and community rugby programs in partnership with local institutions.

With the stadium set to open as Old Glory DC’s home, the club will continue its season with a renewed focus on establishing Fairfax as a central hub for professional rugby in the region.

PROPOSED AMENDMENT for APRIL 2026 SPECIAL ELECTION IN CONTEXT

Last July, President Donald Trump ordered Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) to redistrict his state in the middle of the decade in order to carve out an additional five Republican-leaning congressional districts, which would bolster the party's odds of keeping control of the U. S. House of Representatives following the 2026 midterm elections.
